Our Mission & Vision

Established in 2020, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Guwahati (AIIMS Guwahati) is a state-of-the-art medical institute located in Changsari, Assam. As part of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), our mission is to provide high-quality, affordable healthcare services to the people of Northeast India, while fostering excellence in medical education and cutting-edge research.

With a sprawling campus of 150 acres, AIIMS Guwahati is equipped with modern infrastructure, including a 750-bedded hospital, advanced diagnostic facilities, and dedicated research centers. Our vision is to become a global leader in medical sciences, addressing regional health challenges through innovation and community engagement.

Cardiology

Our cardiology department offers advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services for heart diseases, including angiography, angioplasty, and cardiac surgery. We have a dedicated cardiac ICU and non-invasive lab for comprehensive heart care.

Oncology

Neurology

The neurology department deals with disorders of the nervous system, offering services like EEG, EMG, and advanced neuroimaging. We have a stroke unit with thrombolysis facilities and a dedicated epilepsy monitoring unit.

Our team manages conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis. We collaborate with neurosurgery for complex cases and conduct research on neurological disorders prevalent in Northeast India.

Pediatrics

Our pediatrics department provides comprehensive care for children from birth to adolescence, including neonatal ICU, pediatric ICU, and vaccination services. We have subspecialties in pediatric cardiology, neurology, and hematology.

Orthopedics

MBBS Program

The MBBS program at AIIMS Guwahati is a 5.5-year course (including internship) that admits 100 students annually through the NEET-UG examination. The curriculum integrates basic sciences with clinical exposure from the first year.

Students learn in simulated labs, skills centers, and bedside clinics. The program emphasizes communication skills, ethics, and community health. Elective postings in rural health centers provide real-world experience.

Postgraduate Courses

We offer MD/MS programs in 25 specialties, including general medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and radiology. Admission is through the INI-CET examination. Each program has a structured curriculum with research components.

AIIMS Guwahati Launches Mobile Cancer Screening Camp

June 15, 2023

In an initiative to combat rising cancer cases in Assam, AIIMS Guwahati launched a mobile screening camp that will tour rural districts. Equipped with portable ultrasound and biopsy tools, the camp aims to detect early-stage cancers of breast, cervix, and oral cavity. Over 5000 individuals have been screened in the first month, with 50 suspected cases referred for further treatment.

The program is supported by the National Cancer Grid and local NGOs. Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the effort, stating, "This brings advanced healthcare to the doorsteps of our people." The institute plans to expand the camp to all 33 districts by 2025.

New Cardiac Cath Lab Inaugurated at AIIMS Guwahati

May 22, 2023

A state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory was inaugurated by Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam. The lab features biplane angiography and advanced hemodynamic monitoring systems, enabling complex interventions like TAVR and PCI for high-risk patients. It is expected to perform over 1000 procedures annually, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state.

Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Head of Cardiology, said, "This lab will revolutionize heart care in Northeast India." The institute also launched a fellowship program in interventional cardiology to train specialists from the region.

Research on Traditional Medicine Wins National Award

April 10, 2023

A team from AIIMS Guwahati received the ICMR Award for Best Research in Indigenous Systems of Medicine. Their study validated the efficacy of a traditional herbal formulation in managing type 2 diabetes, showing significant reduction in HbA1c levels. The research, published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, involved 200 patients over two years.

Lead researcher Dr. Priya Sharma emphasized the potential of integrating traditional knowledge with modern medicine. The institute has established a center for integrative medicine to further such studies.
