In an initiative to combat rising cancer cases in Assam, AIIMS Guwahati launched a mobile screening camp that will tour rural districts. Equipped with portable ultrasound and biopsy tools, the camp aims to detect early-stage cancers of breast, cervix, and oral cavity. Over 5000 individuals have been screened in the first month, with 50 suspected cases referred for further treatment.
The program is supported by the National Cancer Grid and local NGOs. Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the effort, stating, "This brings advanced healthcare to the doorsteps of our people." The institute plans to expand the camp to all 33 districts by 2025.

A state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory was inaugurated by Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam. The lab features biplane angiography and advanced hemodynamic monitoring systems, enabling complex interventions like TAVR and PCI for high-risk patients. It is expected to perform over 1000 procedures annually, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state.
Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Head of Cardiology, said, "This lab will revolutionize heart care in Northeast India." The institute also launched a fellowship program in interventional cardiology to train specialists from the region.

A team from AIIMS Guwahati received the ICMR Award for Best Research in Indigenous Systems of Medicine. Their study validated the efficacy of a traditional herbal formulation in managing type 2 diabetes, showing significant reduction in HbA1c levels. The research, published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, involved 200 patients over two years.
Lead researcher Dr. Priya Sharma emphasized the potential of integrating traditional knowledge with modern medicine. The institute has established a center for integrative medicine to further such studies.
